Hi guys,
I just need some advice:
I’m currently using an aimrite 1.4m supervenom x with a 7.5mm shaft and 2 x 16mm. I was looking at upgrading the bands to 2x 18mm rob allen bands but I’m worried about shaft whip and loosing accuracy… Thoughts? -

I’ve used dyneema for my shooting lines exclusively since 2007 and had very good results. It holds up much better than mono on the reef and around structure. I’m fortunate to go spearing most weekends, so I’ve […]

If you have used a speargun for a while you have no doubt experienced muzzle wrap once before. Basically the rubbers and bridles get tangled with the shooting line. Sometimes it stops the spear at the muzzle or […]

Hi, i dived for many years with only a gun and reel and after a couple of close calls with line fisho’s i changed to a rig and float. I still use a reel around headheads and love the freedom it gives, and all the excellent spearing dvd’s over the last year or so show a large shift to reels. With the spear safe campaign for using a float, is there…[Read more]

Very good point Dave, Something that we try to promote when anyone is using a reel is to stay within very close proximity of a boat with a flag or an anchored float with a flag (if shore diving).
Reel diving is still something we try to promote as a style of diving, only for very experienced and safety conscience spearos (in good conditions).…[Read more]

Hey Dave as Louis said it is a tough one, the style of diving used (only can comment for the QLD section) is diving always very near a boat. We rarely shore dive and when we do you will see in the magazine a float is always used, not just for the saftey reason, but also for practicalities ( my last shore dive i shot 28kg jew... not to fun to drag…[Read more]

Tim, thanks for the reply, was never having a shot at anybody, i love reel diving, do not stop filming and making DVD’s, when i started 25 years ago you could not access information or film on spearing especially on the mid-north nsw, i think guys like yourself are changing the face of spearing for the better. I think common sense needs to be used…[Read more]

SDM Writer Olivier Bittar shows us his biggest Cuberra Snapper from Latin America. Very similar to Mangrove Jacks these fish grow to massive sizes and are tough fighters.

Hi Jeremy,
A lot of the guys in WA use the Super X and run twin 18mm bands with great results. The lengths should be 34 inches and 32 inches. You shouldn't lose accuracy provided you stick to these lengths.
